Blog work trip in Tanzania (Marloes) March 2018 – Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater
Today we say goodbye to a beautiful place and the lovely crew: what a wonderful time we had in the Green Camp! Lucky us, other beautiful locations await our arrival …
The drive from the camp to the exit of Lake Manyara National Park is again a stunning game drive. We drive through a beautiful forest in the north of the park, while we once again experience the miscellaneousness of this little park.
At the park’s exit, we go for a walk on the Treetop Walkway. Via suspension bridges, we walk from tree to tree and enjoy the height (max. 18 meters) of this beautiful, greenly wooded part of the park. Along the way, the guide informs us about the plants, butterflies, birds and monkeys. But what I like most about it, is that you’re outdoors and experience Manyara in again a very different way. The variety of activities in / around this park is fantastic!
In Mto wa Mbu (village just outside Lake Manyara National Park) we jump on the mountain bike again for a tour through the village, past the market, along paths through the banana plantations and we take a look at local artists. We end up at a Tanzanian lady’s home, where we enjoy various delicious local dishes in her garden; a local lunch. A must do!
After we left Mto wa Mbu, we head to Ngorongoro Crater. A beautiful ride, where you drive up the Rift Valley, through the agricultural area of the Ngorongoro highlands and the lively town of Karatu. Another small trip down memory lane, since I ran Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge for five months (together with my husband) in 2012. Again, wonderful memories come back to me as we drive through this beautiful part of Tanzania …
After Karatu we drive up through the rainforest, to the edge of the famous Ngorongoro Crater. At the lookout, we enjoy the fantastic view over this spectacular crater! We drive another hour further along the edge of the crater, to our luxury camp for the night. Upon arrival (in the cold), we are warmly welcomed by the crew with a snack & drink by the campfire … another breathtaking place!
