November is a good month to recharge before winter sets in. A wonderful month to be in Northern Tanzania and enjoy nature, culture, animals and the sun. The short rains this month not only provide some cooling, but also beautiful skies, young greenery and lots of flowers. The yoga is given for both beginners and advanced students.

Always dreamed to go to Tanzania, experience the (Maasai) culture and immerse yourself in the rhythm of this natural world?
In collaboration with yoga school Spirit of Yoga, we organize a fully catered yoga retreat in the north of Tanzania in the first week of November (03 – 11 November 2023). You enjoy yoga (vinyasa and yin), meditation, nature, relaxing massages (option) and healthy snacks and drinks.
You are a guest of the Maasai and go on safari in Tarangire and the beautiful Arusha National Park.
Arusha
You will depart from Schiphol on 03 November 2023 and arrive in Arusha in the course of the evening. Here you will be met by our colleague, who will take you to your accommodation on the outskirts of Arusha.
This beautiful and cosy farmhouse from 1905 was built in colonial style and is located in the beautiful forests on the slope of Mount Meru, where you will completely relax.
The next day you start with your first (vinyasa) yoga class. After a joint breakfast you can use all the facilities of the lodge, such as the wellness and the swimming pool. Whether you go boating on the pond of the lodge or (optional) take a cycling, horseback riding or hiking trip in the area.
A little later in the day there will be another (yin) yoga session.
Arusha National Park
Today, after yoga and your healthy breakfast, you will leave for a day trip to Arusha National Park. Here you make a jeep safari in search of the wild animals in this park. After the picnic lunch you go by canoe in search of the wildlife in and around Lake Momella. You are sure to see giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, hippos, monkeys and countless birds today.
The day ends with another wonderful relaxing yin yoga session.
Tarangire
Today the day starts early with an early bird yoga session, after which the guide from Explore Tanzania will pick you up. The next two days are all about safari.
You drive west through the Maasai Steppe to Tarangire National Park. This park is known for the gigantic baobab trees and large groups of elephants.
You spend the night in a picturesque place, in the middle of nature and among the animals. From a private veranda, with spectacular views over the Tarangire River and the drinking elephants and zebras.
In the evening there is no yoga, but you share the experiences of the day with a delicious drink by the campfire, under the stars.
Cultural Heritage
After breakfast, you will depart for a morning game drive in this beautiful and rugged park, to meet the resident elephants, lions and baobab trees.
After this you drive to your next lodge, in the middle of untouched nature. Here you are a guest of the friendly Maasai and spend the night in a cozy authentic boma. An inspiring introduction to this fascinating and colorful culture.
On the way we stop at the Arusha Cultural Heritage Center, a large shop annex art gallery. The place where the past and present of Tanzania’s more than 120 peoples can be viewed in a single place. A true treasure chest of African art.
Maasai
Every morning you will be woken up here with a delicious cup of hot coffee or tea, so that you can enjoy the rising sun over Kilimanjaro and the sounds from the bush. It doesn’t come closer to nature.
After a joint breakfast you can use all the facilities of the lodge, such as the wellness and the swimming pool.
After the morning and afternoon yoga sessions on the yoga platform, with a view of the magnificent Kilimanjaro, there are many opportunities to get to know the Maasai better. For example through their stories at the campfire and traditional dances. But also a walk with a traditional healer in search of healing herbs or a bike ride (optional) in the area are possible.
Ngare Nanyuki
Today it is possible to visit the school and hospital in the neighboring Maasai village of Ngare Nanyuki.
You can also participate in a workshop ‘jewelery making’ or simply relax in the sun, by the swimming pool with a view over the wide Maasai steppes.
Whatever you do, it’s fun here. An enrichment!
Arusha - back home
Today you will enjoy the last yoga class with phenomenal views of Kilimanjaro.
You can spend the morning according to your wishes at this authentic lodge where you can enjoy the beautiful location, the great views, wellness (option) and the swimming pool.
In the afternoon you will be taken to the airport near Arusha – the Kilimanjaro Airport – for the flight back home where you will arrive the next morning.
But instead you can of course also extend this great yoga & safari week with, for example, a climb of the Kilimanjaro, a safari in one or more other parks in Tanzania or a beach holiday on one of the beautiful tropical islands of Tanzania or its Indian Ocean coast.

This yoga & safari week with Explore Tanzania is a group trip, and was created in collaboration with yoga school Spirit of Yoga.
All the activities mentioned are offered for the whole group, but you are of course free to skip one or more parts if that suits you better.
