Socially involved

At Mbuyuni Farm Retreat organic and sustainable agriculture is practiced.

At the start in 1992 there was little planting due to years of charcoal extraction. Since then 60% of the land has been made suitable for construction, 40% for regrowth of natural shrubs and reforestation (agroforestry).

The main crops are: moringa, chili, lemongrass and hibiscus for tea.

Not the adjacent Ngererengere river, but water reservoirs supply the water for domestic use and irrigation. Compost is made from, among other things. moringa stems and cattle manure. A green manure is sown on the fields that are not planted with cash crops.
